About The Author

Welcome to Authentically Human!

The words you read, unless otherwise signed, are written by me, Shannon Schmelter, a 23 year old lady child from the Chicago Suburbs.

Navigating through the first six rocky months of life after college, I've completely altered the state of my life. I began with moving out of my parent's house for the first time and into a one bedroom apartment with my boyfriend of less than two years. We adopted our first dog together, I took the first corporate job that said 'yes,' after receiving so many 'no's, and quit said corporate job after just a month and a half.

In what otherwise feels like an incredibly unstable phase of my life, arguably of my own doing, I can't help but ooze with joy. The independence I've gained from these ~somewhat~ impulsive decisions has radically shifted the way I think about myself and my dreams.

Although I often feel alone in the struggles of post-graduate existence, the words of others remind me that this can't be farther from the truth. No matter what you're going through, you are not alone. In every stupid decision we make, something must grow--oftentimes, it's us.

So here I am, sharing my thoughts through this online portal, to reach you as you inevitably move through struggles and try to find yourself. I hope to be a beacon of light, confronting my own fears and celebrating my achievements both large and small, to inspire you to do the same, so that we may both come out of it knowing ourselves a bit better.

If you feel compelled to join in on the discussion I will be opening in the posts to come, I would love to hear your words and experiences!

All my warmth,

Shannon
